The Fraternal Kiss – Berlin Wall Memory (B-018)

This design recalls Dmitri Vrubel’s famous East Side Gallery mural of Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev and East German leader Erich Honecker in a socialist fraternal kiss. Based on a political greeting, the image became one of the most recognisable works painted on the Berlin Wall. It carries a sharp historical irony: a symbol of official unity was repainted on a wall whose fall came to represent freedom, change and the end of division.
